Girindus  AG  signs  option  agreement  for  an  exclusive  in-license  of  a  new  active  ingredient

29.03.05 —

Bensberg, Germany, 29 March 2005 – Girindus AG, a company listed in the Prime Segment of the German Stock Exchange and specialized in process development and the production of innovative drug and cosmetic actives, announced that it has signed an option agreement for the worldwide exclusive rights for a new dermatological product developed by the Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation in cooperation with the Skin Science Institute in Ohio, USA.

The new product, which Girindus intends to market under the trademark GirSkinTM Vernix Caseosa, imitates the properties of the natural vernix caseosa, a protective substance covering the skin of unborn infants. In the pharmaceutical industry it can improve healing of damaged skin or serve as a carrier for drug actives.

Because of its high moisture content, GirSkinTM Vernix Caseosa is also interesting to the cosmetic industry where possible applications include the use as a moisturizer or as a vehicle for cosmetic actives.

The global market for cosmetic skin care products alone amounts to US $ 30 billion annually; 20% of this total is attributable to moisturizing products. Owing to the positive properties of GirSkinTM Vernix Caseosa, Girindus is confident that it will be able to gain a sizable share of this rapidly growing market with its new product.
